The Yeperenye Caterpillars came from Central Mt Stuart, the Finke River and Mt Zeil. The Yeperenye caterpillars met the Irlperenye at Emily gap. The Irlperenye defeated most of the Yeperenye caterpillars and the rest of the caterpillars retreated. Some caterpillars died by getting their heads bitten off. The guts of the caterpillars that died formed rocks. The caterpillars that survived created rivers and trees and headed off to Mparntwe (Alice Springs) . At Emily Gap there is a sacred site for men. The men had to follow one set of foot prints so the spirits think there is only one person coming in the sacred site. If you go right off the track you get punished. There were pictures in the sacred site that were painted by the older men. They were regularly repainted so people could still see what the pictures looked like. |
