RESOURCES

A survey of resources used in this project, and further resources that may be useful to teachers planning units of work on the theme of Bush Tucker.

THE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Without a doubt, the most important resource in a project such as this is the student group itself and the knowledge that they bring with them to the school. We made it clear to the students from the outset that the project was not about us as teachers teaching them about bushtucker ... they already knew far more about the topic than we did anyway. Rather, our role was to assist them in developing the skills necessary to structure, edit and publish their knowledge, and to research additional technical/scientific information to supplement their existing knowledge.
The students' families are also a very important resource. Older family members in particular have a wealth of knowledge in the area. In a project such as this, family members can be invited to participate in a variety of ways, from checking the accuracy of information during conferencing sessions to attending excursions to locations such as the Desert Park and elsewhere.

THE ALICE SPRINGS DESERT PARK
The Alice Springs Desert Park is a great resource for a project such as this. The park is layed out into several habitat areas, and a great deal of information can be collected from park staff, displays and literature. For more information about the Desert Park, visit the Alice Springs Desert Park and Friends of the Alice Springs Desert Park homepages.

THE INTERNET
There are several websites that deal with the topic of bushtucker. Not all are directly relevant to Central Australia:
