A habitat is a place where plants and animals naturally live.
There are five main habitat types in Central Australia: sandhills, creeks, plains, woodlands and hills. Each type of habitat also has a name in aboriginal languages. This table gives the English, Arrernte and Luritja names for each habitat:
| English | Luritja | Arrernte |
|---|---|---|
| sandhills | tali | apmere rerrke |
| creek | karru | apmere lhere |
| woodland | tjata | apmere arne-artne |
| plains | pila | apmere nteke |
| hills | puli | apmere apwerte |
