HABITATS

by Dallas, Zac, Jamey, Ralph and Lindberg

A habitat is a place where plants and animals naturally live.

There are five main habitat types in Central Australia: sandhills, creeks, plains, woodlands and hills. Each type of habitat also has a name in aboriginal languages. This table gives the English, Arrernte and Luritja names for each habitat:

English Luritja Arrernte
sandhills tali apmere rerrke
creek karru apmere lhere
woodland tjata apmere arne-artne
plains pila apmere nteke
hills puli apmere apwerte
